Parts of the United States have been dealing with a long stretch of sweltering heat, and data suggests that summer temperatures will continue to rise. This year, July 6 was the record for hottest day ever recorded – possibly even in 100,000 years. In order to prevent global warming from exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels, countries around the world agreed in 2015’s Paris Agreement to try and phase out burning fossil fuels.
